Soojung Park

About the artist

Soojung Park is a contemporary artist based in Los Angeles, where she has lived and worked for over 20 years. Through her practice, Park uses observations from her daily interactions, deriving meaning from moments both significant and mundane. Her repertoire acts as an ongoing visual diary, reflecting the continuously transforming essence of her life. Park’s typical process consists of color and line work on predominantly plexiglass. Rather than treating the medium as a blank canvas, she acts in response to the lines and shapes as they emerge at the surface—each mark she makes responds to what is already there. Much like navigating each day, her reactions to the material are shaped by the present moment, yet are informed by a lifetime of experiences and the generations before her. Through color choice, line thickness, and the depth of each scored on the plexiglass surface, Park reflects her voice.
