About the artist
Much of my artistic practice is deeply influenced by my family's immigration journey from Iraq to the United States, while also exploring the universal human instinct for migration. This journey often embodies a quest for stability, belonging, progress, or an escape from challenging circumstances. Through the manipulation of focus and the layering of imagery, I utilize mixed media, photography, video, and textiles to examine the intersections of Middle Eastern and Western cultures through a postcolonial perspective. The dreamlike quality of my artworks facilitates a thorough exploration of collective memory, especially regarding the personal significance of objects and the mythos surrounding family archives. Central themes of migration, history, and the pursuit of home shape my practice, with the intention of enhancing understanding of my own identity and sense of belonging. Ultimately, my work offers valuable insights into the complex and nuanced relationships between individuals, their heritage, and the broader world that surrounds them.
