About the artist

Growing up a port city in England, Cox developed an early fascination with maritime landscapes, migration, and departure. For four decades Cox worked exclusively in photography investigating landscapes in transition—from California deserts and ancient UK woodlands to Icelandic coasts—where wildness and human presence meet. During the pandemic, Cox returned to drawing and painting, translating his ideas into large-scale charcoal works. He combines maritime imagery with explorations of impermanence, endurance, and psychological states, focusing on places marked by human traces, including industrial edges and eroding coastlines. Cox’s work has been exhibited in museums in California, the UK, and Iceland, and featured in numerous publications, including the Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, Art Doc, and Lenscratch.
