Photography of LA river and Joshua Tree landscapes
About the artist
Since studying fine art at the University of Missouri, Fred has merged graphics, printmaking, and painting into his multi-disciplinary artwork. After embracing digital photography in 2015, he spent a decade documenting the changing urban landscape and communities along the LA River. Now based in Joshua Tree, Fred focuses entirely on high desert vistas and ancient stone structures. Inspired by eons of geological transformation, he captures the desert's immutable, atemporal presence. To convey this immense scale, Fred shoots "sweeps"—handheld multi-frame panoramas stitched together in his studio. This intuitive process allows the camera and desert light to dictate the final composition, yielding unexpected and striking imagery that honors the raw texture of the landscape.
