Evan Nie

About the artist

Evan Nie is a sculptor and lighting designer who has called Los Angeles home for the past 15 years. His work centers around sustainable materials and found objects to explore ideas of growth, purpose, and rebirth. Each piece invites us to expect more from the items that adorn our walls, while also highlighting the ways in which re-purposing can become a natural step in the life cycle of that object. By seeking out materials that reflect this theme and letting them guide the final form of the piece, Evan found a method of creating sculpture that feels more like cultivation than construction. His practice of harvesting and curing bamboo deepened his connection to the idea of seeking a balance with our own environment so we can continue to thrive. He believes his work, much like the space we inhabit, can be greater than the sum of its parts. And asks that we all strive to find not just beauty and form in the objects that surround us, but also a sustainable path forward.
